We know you love the beaches of Caleta de Fuste, but the coast of Antigua, on the east side of Fuerteventura, is also home to other beaches, less known, but no less attractive. On the coast of the island there are beaches to suit all tastes. You’ve got beaches with a manner of services, unspoiled beaches, white or black sand beaches, beaches with strong waves or very calm waters. The beaches of Antigua are all different but they all have one thing in common – they are usually protected and sheltered from the wind and waves most of the year, which sets them apart them from the beaches of the west coast.

El Castillo Beach

The first one we find on the east coast going from north to south is El Castillo beach, worthy of a postcard. More than 700 meters long and 60 meters wide, it has fine white sand, calm, crystal clear and shallow waters, and palm umbrellas.
It also has all the services you need for a comfortable day at the beach, and a wide range of activities for all ages that will guarantee a day to remember. There’s lilos, scooters, windsurfing, diving, snorkeling, paddle surfing, tennis, and more! The options are endless.
It also has a long promenade which makes for a delightful spot to take a stroll. And in the background, at the beginning of the marina, is the Castle of San Buenaventura, the imposing 18th century defensive tower that gives its name to the beach.

La Guirra and its small coves

Next to El Castillo beach, walking along the promenade or even on the sand itself, we find La Guirra, a cozy beach made, in turn, of small coves separated by walkways that go into the sea, which give it a paradisiacal feel.
At the end of the beach, you’ll find another sample of the history and culture of Fuerteventura. There is a stone oven, which reveals that this area was used to trade lime, an activity closely linked to the economy of the island in the past.

The beach of Las Salinas del Carmen

We continue along the coast and about two and a half kilometers to the south from Caleta de Fuste is the beach of Las Salinas del Carmen, in the small village of the same name.
The town is named after the salt marshes that are still in operation here, producing one of the richest salts in the world using traditional methods. Today, it has been converted into a museum space. A visit is highly recommended.
The beach is a small bay protected from the open sea. It’s very quiet and not very busy, ideal for a relaxing swim if you visit the museum, or after eating fresh fish and some traditional baked potatoes with mojo sauce in the restaurant next to the beach.

Pozo Negro

Pozo Negro is a visit that we highly recommend for several reasons. Firstly, the beach has a special charm with its black sand, its small houses and fishing boats, and a calm and very blue sea. And if that wasn’t enough, it’s also located in the middle of a natural landscape of incalculable richness and beauty, and is a site of great historical and archaeological importance.
Visiting the Interpretation Centre of La Atalayita Settlement, the most important archaeological park of the aborigines of Fuerteventura, admiring the Protected Landscape of Malpaís Grande and the Natural Monument of Cuchillos de Vigán, two natural jewels near Pozo Negro, and enjoying the sun and the sea on this unique beach, make for a perfect day on the island.
