On Ocober 21st and 22nd, we’ll enjoy an unprecedented event in the Canary Islands: Nogiland Fuerteventura, a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu competition (BJJ) in two different modalities: with kimono (GILAND) and without it (NOGILAND).
BJJ has been standing out for some years and more and more people are practising it every day; it already has lots of followers in Fuerteventura, so this championship -organised by the NOGILAND team- has sprung up with the aim of consolidating and becoming a benchmark in the national calendar of competitors to the benefit of followers and sportsmen of the island who will have an annual appointment near home.
Brazilian jiujitsu is a martial art, a combat sport and a Brazilian system of self-defence, original from Japan and focused, mainly, on a hand-to-hand fighting on the floor. The practice of BJJ improves the physical condition, instructs and constitutes a stress scape thanks to the physical and mental work that mastering the techniques requires. All these characteristics make BJJ one of the sports with the greatest international scope.
In this gathering, children up to 17 years old, adult men and women from 17 to 30 years old and master category from 30 years old onwards will compete in their respective categories, the modality with kimono taking place on Saturday 21st and, without kimono, on Sunday 22nd. It’s an event that gathers sportsmen from the peninsula and the different parts of The Islands.
Admission to this event is free on both days, and moreover a food collection campaign has been set in motion to offer it to different associations in the Island, so you can do your bit by taking non-perishable food.
NOGILAND is an initiative created by BJJ lovers and sportsmen offering regular competitions in the calendar in both modalities, with and without kimono, whose aim is to establish regular national and international competitions, thus helping to boost, spread and make the community of this sport grow, having more and more followers every day.
