Mediterráneo is one of the few stores we can find in El Cotillo. Clothes with a typical island style, lively and inspired in the colours of the sea, well-known Italian makes and unique handicrafts, croqueted by their owner, Elena Masut.
And this is because Elena has been a crochet lover since she was very young, an authentic fashion craftswoman. Among her crochet creations we can find foulards, belts, necklaces, earrings… but mainly hats.
Over 15 years ago, Elena started to make crochet caps; she has her own make, «Capplè», inspired in designs of the 20’s and 30’s. But she has also published several manuals of croquet patterns she has used for her designs. There is not a single hat which is similar to another in her store, each one is a unique piece, many of them decorated with buttons, buckles or ties she has found in antique shops throughout the years. In Italy they are well-known and they have starred fashion parades, photo sessions and they have even been used as decoration in shops that have nothing to do with fashion.
In Fuerteventura, she has adapted her creations to warm weather, making her hats with raffia fibre and cotton to get a softer and summery result.
But her creative capacity goes beyond crochet. In Mediterraneo, the store she set up together with her husband four years ago, you can find wonderful hand-made sandals inspired in the typical sandals of Capri Island, ties for woman with very special designs, headdresses, carpets, bags, belts, swimsuits…
