Four viewpoints in Betancuria offering a gorgeous panorama of the most arid and mountainous part of Fuerteventura

Betancuria, the former capital city of Fuerteventura and one of the most beautiful villages of Spain, is a must-visit if you want to learn about the past of the island. In the municipality of Betancuria you will find four of the best viewpoints in Fuerteventura from where to discover its breathtaking inland.
Four of the best viewpoints in Fuerteventura
1. Mirador de Morro Velosa
This viewpoint offers some amazing views over the unusual beauty of Fuerteventura’s inland, with its wonderful and surprising arid landscape that gives a sense of calm and spaciousness. Designed by Lanzarote’s very famous artist César Manrique, it is a building of Canarian style where you will learn about the geological past of this volcanic island. There is a nice café inside where you can have something to drink while enjoying the panorama.
Morro Velosa building and café are temporarily closed, but visitors can access the viewpoint at all times. Café opening hours: Tuesday-Saturday, from 10 am till 6 pm.
2. Mirador de Guise y Ayose
Even though it is very close to Mirador de Morro Velosa, Mirador de Guise y Ayose is oriented towards another direction, so you can enjoy another view on the impressive landscape. As an extra attraction to this visit, in this viewpoint you find the statues of the last two Maho kings, the ancient inhabitants of the islands.
3. Mirador Las Peñitas
Here is an oasis with a peculiar underground river crossing some desert mountains and flowing into a man-made lake, that dominates the entrance to Las Peñitas. Normally, it is dry, but it gives amazing views of a special landscape.
4. Mirador Risco de las Peñitas
This is another natural viewpoint that boasts spectacular views of the whole valley. It is dominated by two big crows we recommend that you do not feed, even though they are more than used to be given food.
We recommend start this route at the Morro Velosa viewpoint if you come from the North and end up enjoying the town of Pájara, or the charming little fishing village of Ajuy.
