Storm Therese, currently forming to the west of the Canary Islands, is expected to impact the archipelago from Wednesday, March 18, with weather warnings activated across all islands from 07:00 AM.

In Fuerteventura, a coastal alert has been issued, along with a pre-alert for rain, wind and thunderstorms, as well as a warning for potential flooding.

The weather system is expected to bring strong wind gusts of up to 90 km/h, along with significant sea conditions, with waves that could exceed 4 metres in height. These conditions will coincide with spring tides, increasing the risk of coastal incidents and localized flooding.

There is also a risk of flooding in both coastal and urban areas. Strong waves may lead to water overtopping promenades, roads and bathing areas, while rainfall could cause water accumulation and sudden rises in ravines and small watercourses.

Forecasts indicate that the storm may intensify as it approaches the islands, moving across the archipelago from west to east and bringing generally moderate rainfall, which could become locally persistent in some areas.

This period of instability is expected to last several days, potentially affecting the Canary Islands throughout the rest of the week and into the weekend.

Authorities are advising residents and visitors to exercise caution, avoid coastal areas and follow all official safety recommendations.
