Sotavento is a beautiful virgin 9-km long beach at the top of the best beaches in Europe.

It is on the east coast of Fuerteventura, in the municipality of Jandía, south of Costa Calma. In reality, Sotavento beach is made of 5 beaches of great beauty; from north to south: Playa de La Barca, Risco del Paso, Mirador, Malnombre and Playa de Los Canarios. 

At low tide Sotavento beach, with its endless golden sand, emerges spectacularly, creating huge lagoons.

It is ideal for endless walks while enjoying some transparent waters. It is known for the huge lagoon that forms with the tide variation. It is the ideal lagoon to start practising the island’s most popular sports, windsurfing and kitesurfing.

In Sotavento beach, the kitesurfing and windsurfing world championship takes place from the end of July to mid-August, when the wind blows strong in this area. Playa de La Barca and Risco del Paso are more dedicated to the practise of these windsports, while the southern beaches are ideal to enjoy a wonderful day on the beach.

Highly recommended for families with children and for nature lovers. The area surrounding the beach is a spectacular desert landscape, dunes and sand that are worth a visit. It is a wild beach, with no amenities and few people. It is advisable to bring food and drinks. Normally, there are no strong tides. Nudism allowed.

How to get to Sotavento beach

Driving from Costa Calma to Morro Jable through the old FV-2, along the highway you will find several exit tracks. Parking spaces right close to the beach.
