Let?s fly! The skies above Corralejo and El Cotillo are getting ready for the colourful spectacle of the International Kite Festival

The International Kite Festival programme is filled with activities taking place from 11th to 14th November

Playa de El Burro and Playa de El Dormidero in Corralejo, and Playa de La Concha in El Cotillo will host the International Kite Festival with kites from all over Europe. Professional kite players from all parts of Spain, France, Italy, Switzerland, Germany, Belgium, Holland, England, and much more will participate in this one-of-a-kind event that started back in 1987. Since then, the event has grown in importance in its category and each year more and more participants and visitors gather at the festival to attend this extraordinary and magical spectacle.

The stunning images of a motley assortment of kites in different colours and shapes filling Fuerteventura?s heavenly beaches are attracting attention worldwide. The festival is serving a crucial role in promoting tourism in the northern municipality of La Oliva abroad.

In this 34th edition, the programme includes some news. As a matter of fact, the event will be livestreamed and there will be a great range of parallel activities for kids and grownups, workshops, theatre, music concerts and parades. Moreover, the festival organization is conducting some researches to make the event more sustainable by using renewable resources.

EL COTILLO ? PLAYA DE LA CONCHA

11th November
On Thursday 11th November, Playa de La Concha ? one of the most admired beaches of the island by both local people and visitors ? will host kite fliers, kites and spectators wishing to admire this stunning event. From 11 am to 5 pm, a multitude of kites will fly acrobatically and statically, filling the skies of El Cotillo with colours.

12th November
The starting gun shot on the East coast will happen at 10 am, with the opening flight of this 34th edition of the Corralejo International Kite Festival curated by Jacinto and Flora, and their creativity.
After that, and until 5 pm, some professional kite players from all over Europe will show their abilities flying their kites in acrobatic and static routines.
13th November
On Saturday too ? throughout the whole day ? visitors will enjoy a fantastic display of kites in different colours and shapes.
One of the news about this year?s edition is a greater media coverage: the festival will be livestreamed starting from 12 pm and can be followed on its new website www.corralejokitefest.com?and on social media. This is a way for people from all over the world to admire and enjoy the Kite Festival from their homes.
At 1 pm, a Rokkaku Kite battle will decide which kite is the strongest in the sky. At the end of the day, there will be a meeting of the festival?s professional kite fliers.

Wind Festival, activities for the whole family

During the Kite Festival, another event will be taking place in Playa de El Dormidero and Playa de El Burro for the first time: the Wind Festival, an event that boasts a wide range of amusing and entertaining activities for the whole family. To kick off the day, at 11 am ?La Familia Flotante? will play a concert. Then, between 11 am and 4 pm, there will be space for workshops on kite making, environmental interpretation and renewable sources. Apart from this, a kids? playground will make the littles ones? day. At 12.30 pm, the programme will continue with a parade led by a giant three-headed dragon and followed by a batucada. After this, at 1.30 pm, the band ?Artistas del Gremio? from Zaragoza will play their concert and will perform again at 8 pm in the centre of Corralejo together with the three-headed dragon.

14th November
On the last day of this edition, from 10 am to 5.30 pm, there will be another display of flying kites, and once again it will be livestreamed on social media and broadcast on television starting from 12 pm. The day will end at 4 pm, with the closing celebration of the 34th edition of the International Kite Festival.
There are plans for the whole family on Sunday 14th November too. From 11 am to 4 pm, there will be space again for the workshops on kite making, environmental interpretation and renewable sources, as well as the kids? playground. The giant three-headed dragon?s parade will take place at 11.30 am, followed by the concert of ?Ruth y la Isla Music? at 12.30 pm; to end the day, the Spanish band ?Artistas del Gremio? will perform live at 2 pm.

The International Kite Festival, organised by Ayuntamiento de La Oliva through their Concejal?a de Turismo, is one of the most important events of the municipality and is placing La Oliva in the media spotlight internationally.
