His photos of Fuerteventura do not pass unnoticed. Wild spaces, natural pools, endless beaches, the island at a bird’s-eye view… José Assima drifts over Fuerteventura and sometimes the nearby islands with his photography equipment, especially with his drone, and he gives us spectacular images from heaven every day.

He is a great lover of Fuerteventura, which is one of his sources of inspiration when it comes to create. But photography is not his only gift. This young man from El Cotillo is an ARTIST, with all capital letters. He studied Fine Arts in Seville and Barcelona and specialised in photography and design. He lived for a few years in New York and Berlin and then came back to his island to “spit all he has learnt”. Sculpture, painting, design… there is no one art that he does not handle. In fact, he had his works shown in different museums several times.

After leaving photography a bit aside in those years when he was looking for new experiences, he resumed it once he landed on Fuerteventura and was caught by its amazing landscape.

Right now, he is focusing on photography and he is getting jobs from everywhere: photo reportages for influencers, fashion, music, hotels… He is the photographer and art director of famous Canarian singer El Vega, who has just filmed his last video in #Fuerteventura, in some locations Assima chose.

But José admitted “he is working as if he had four hands” and that he is not leaving his other artistic facets behind, so “he is painting, drawing, making necklaces, designing and filming videos”. One of his latest works is worth mentioning: he designed the covers of all the Romanceros about the Canary Islands written by Maximiano Trapero (who was honoured with the Canarian award for historic heritage, Premio Canarias de Patrimonio Histórico).
