WHERE THE WORK BY NATURE AND THAT BY C?SAR MANRIQUE FUSE WITH PERFORMING ARTS

Imagine a performing-art Festival with cultural offers full of magic and singularity, in an environment where nature is the protagonist that exquisitely partners with art? We?re talking about Escena Lanzarote, the performing-art festival, the festival of creativity.

The programme has been carefully selected to offer interesting proposals for all audiences and profiles. For residents and visitors, for young people and adults, for all those who wish to quench their cultural interests of any kind, as in Escena Lanzarote they speak the universal language.

It?s not a coincidence that such a festival is taking place in the centres of Art, Culture and Tourism of Lanzarote, as the very island and Escena Lanzarote share their essence: the symbiosis between Art and Nature.

The sensorial experience of high-level artistic and cultural events, such as the ones we can see in the line-up of Escena Lanzarote, exponentially multiplies for the unbeatable environment where the performances are taking place: the auditoriums Jameos del Agua and Cueva de los Verdes, el MIAC-Castillo de San Jos? and La Casa-Museo del Campesino.
Moreover, in 2019 Escena Lanzarote acquires greater prominence because it will celebrate the 100 birthday of C?sar Manrique, a genius and an icon who turned the island into a natural and human work of art, and who put Lanzarote in the international spotlight as one of the best examples of integrity between the respect for nature and the human activity from an artistic and cultural point of view.

Next October and November the festival, directed by Quino Falero, will bring us music, dance, theatre, opera?. on the most dreamy stages of Lanzarote?s Geography.

SMASHED (October 5th and 6th)

Escena Lanzarote starts this 2019 with Smashed, by the British circus company, Gandini Juggling, on October 5th and 6th in Jameos del Agua auditorium. The performance, challenging traditional juggling and contemporary circus, has a total of nine artists, the relationships among them, one hundred apples and a most varied sound track which can include Tammy Wynette and Bach. They?ll be the protagonists of this unforgettable tea party.

The first appointment of this cultural and performing art festival will take place in one of the most impressive rooms, a work by nature and C?sar Manrique. Manrique turned a collapsed volcanic tunnel into a space of harmony, peace and calm. The auditorium, of a singular beauty, offers an acoustics that make it unique in the world.

FAUST vs MEFIT?FELES (November 8th and 9th)

The Festival will land in Auditorio Cueva de los Verdes on November 8th and 9th with the work Fausto vs Mefit?feles. The show offers a review of several operas in ?Fausto?, by Charles Ground, and ?Mefit?feles?, by Arrigo Boito. In this work both characters meet in a dramaturgy with a particular view. Faust is being played by Pancho Corujo, a tenor from Lanzarote, one of the most internationally recognised young national tenors.

Cueva de Los Verdes
The Auditorium La Cueva de Los Verdes becomes, in every performance, one more character in the cast. This volcanic tunnel is one of the longest and most impressive ones in the planet, over six kms long where you can get immersed in the heart of Lanzarote?s formation.
Historically, it was used as a shelter by the local population when attacked by pirates. At present, it?s a focal center where you can admire works by nature, and where you can enjoy the varied cultural offer thanks to this extraordinary auditorium.

BHAKTI (November 30th)

La Casa-Museo del Campesino will hold the Bhakti performance, by the company M?nica de la Fuente, on November 30th, an offer that combines performing arts with gastronomy in a singularly beautiful scene.
The work proposes an emotive and expressive tour around the most evocative sounds and flavours in India, where music and dance create holy spaces when fused. The Bharata Natyam dance goes back to the most ancient ways of dancing in the Indian culture, when the sacred dancers used to dance in the temples for the gods. The performance is starred by the dancer M?nica de la Fuente and the musicians Ravi Prasad and Subrata De.

Casa Museo del Campesino
La Casa Museo del Campesino is a work by Manrique that supposes a recognition to the labour of farmers and their hard life conditions in the island of Lanzarote. It?s about a meeting point between tradition, architecture and gastronomy. In the Bhakti show, the performance fuses with the handicrafts market and the gastronomic offer in a dinner show for the amusement of all the audience?s senses.
