You need holidays, don’t you? We are going to tell you what’s the ideal place for you to enjoy that getaway that will stick in your mind forever. It’s Caleta de Fuste we are talking about. Located in the centre of the wonderful and popular island of Fuerteventura, Caleta de Fuste is one of its most important and delightful cities.
Caleta de Fuste has a privileged position in the island: only six km away from the airport, twelve km away from the capital city – Puerto del Rosario –, and halfway between the northernmost and southernmost points of this long island. For this reason, it is considered a strategic place where to start visiting Fuerteventura and discovering its wonderful corners easily and unhurriedly, enjoying every moment.
The weather in this area is fine and fair all year round, with temperatures varying from 28 to 15 degrees. Needless to say, having a swim in the crystal clear seawaters is a possibility, and most likely a pleasure, at all times.
In addition to all this, Caleta de Fuste offers a wide range of modern accommodations, with more than thirty options for everyone’s liking. Still wondering if Caleta de Fuste has everything you need for your holidays?
Beaches… and natural pools
The beaches around Caleta de Fuste will delight you; they have everything you wish to kick back and relax: turquoise and calm waters, a bay sheltered by the wind and the open ocean, all the comforts and services, a promenade running alongside of the beach for some nice strolls…
The small white sand beaches separated by rocks are certainly worth a visit. If you fancy a different experience, you should absolutely have a dip in a picture-perfect natural pool.
Not a single day goes by without having fun
Since we know that a perfect holiday is not all about beaches, here we give you a list of some of the activities you can do in Caleta de Fuste. Fancying water sports? There are countless activities you can do in the bay or in the modern and enchanting marina, such as windsurfing, snorkeling, diving… Looking for kid-friendly activities? Then, take a walk with a skate, swim among the seals or go on a boat excursion. Any land-based activity? Out of the water, you can enjoy two amazing 18-hole golf courses with a sea view, miniature golf, tennis and beach volley courts… To each their own!
Time to eat!
Are you getting up an appetite? Then try the typical wrinkled potatoes (papas arrugadas), some fresh fish from the Atlantic Ocean, or the multi-award-winning goat cheese (Queso Majorero), that received the PDO status in 1996. Caleta de Fuste boasts a whole range of restaurants, one of the widest of the island: from restaurants serving the most traditional local dishes, to others offering fusion or international cuisine. You’ll be spoilt for choice whenever you want to eat something!
Walking through history
An imposing fortified tower dominates the coastline in Caleta de Fuste. It is the Castle of San Buenaventura, built in 18th century to defend the island against pirate attacks and that now stands out as a proof of the island past.
Other examples of Fuerteventura’s culture and traditional architecture can be seen in Caleta de Fuste. In fact, here you’ll find some limekilns that in the past were used in one of the island commercial activities – the treatment and exportation of lime.
Moving south from Caleta de Fuste, you’ll find another trace of the historical culture of the island that persists to this day: Las Salinas del Carmen, an absolute must-visit for its peculiar charm. In this small village, you can learn how to get the perfect sal de espuma, a special kind of sea salt – obtained through an ancient, artisanal process –, that is much appreciated in cooking.
Antigua, the municipality where Caleta de Fuste is located, also offers plenty of experiences to enjoy during your holidays in paradise, but we cannot tell it all… you have to live it yourself. We are quite sure this is where you want to spend your next holidays.
